V2I SAFETY ROADMAP

The IntelliDrive^SM Vehicle-To-Infrastructure (V2I) for Safety Research Plan is currently under development. The program will build upon the results of the Cooperative Intersection Collision Avoidance Systems (CICAS) research program.

V2I technology development is focusing on prevention of crash types and crash scenarios that are associated with high fatality and injury rates, including:

• Intersection Crashes
• Roadway Departure Crashes
• Speed-Related Crashes
• Commercial Vehicle Crashes

The technologies under investigation will provide a graduated spectrum of safety interfaces, including:

• In-vehicle information and advisories
• In-vehicle driver warnings of imminent crash scenarios
• Pre-emptive vehicle control

Interfaces will be based on open standards for data and communications, including:

• Dedicated Short Range Communications (DSRC)-based for time critical applications
• Open platform concept for non-time-critical applications.
